NIMA™ by PS Furniture — An Engineered Articulating Seat Back

An Engineered Articulating Seat Back
Meet NIMA™ by PS Furniture, a seating family designed around a back that flexes with the person leaning against it.
Comfort built into the chair
The phrase “an engineered articulating seat back” describes NIMA’s defining feature. Designed by Giancarlo Piretti, its back flexes as each person leans against it, responding to individual bodies rather than remaining rigid. That movement is the foundation of the chair’s comfort—and what distinguishes NIMA from seating chosen on appearance alone.
NIMA is made for shared environments where different people use the same chair throughout the day. Its articulating back offers a more accommodating feel in training rooms, collaborative spaces, event settings and cafés, while a broad choice of bases and heights helps the seating suit the room’s purpose.
A family of configurations
Options include sled-base and four-leg desk-height chairs, four-leg counter- and bar-height chairs, a swivel-base desk chair and a swivel-base stool. The four-leg desk chair is also available with casters. Depending on the configuration, NIMA can be specified with arms or upholstery; shell colors include options such as Ferrari Red, alongside many other colors and finishes.
Practical when rooms change
For teams that regularly reconfigure a space, NIMA’s stacking options can make storage more manageable. Sled-base chairs stack up to 20 high on a dolly or five to six high on the floor. Four-leg desk chairs stack up to 16 high on a dolly or five to six high on the floor; counter- and bar-height four-leg chairs stack five to six high on the floor. Swivel-base desk chairs and stools are not stackable. PS Furniture notes that stacking upholstered chairs may leave impressions in the cushions.
That range makes NIMA a useful fit for organizations furnishing rooms with more than one job: a training space that needs to clear for another activity, a café with varied seating heights, or an event room where chairs are regularly gathered and reset. The non-stackable swivel models make more sense where an adjustable or stool-height seat matters more than compact storage.
Who should consider NIMA
NIMA is suited to facility planners, designers and organizations seeking a coordinated seating family rather than a single-purpose chair. Buyers can match base style and height to the setting, select shell colors and finishes, and choose upholstery from PS Furniture’s fabric program. Its strongest point is the combination: an articulating back intended to adapt to the sitter, with configurations that address different spaces and storage needs.
